I Go Back to May 1937 - Sharon Olds

Olds was born on the 19th of November, 1942, in San Francisco, California. She graduated from Stanford University with her bachelor's degree in 1964 and with her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1972. Since then she has become known world-wide with her fabulous, emotive poetry- winning her awards such as the National Book Critics Circle Award and the San Francisco Poetry Centre Award.

"Olds is known for writing intensely personal, emotionally scathing poetry which graphically depicts family life as well as global political events"

- I just thought the diction of this quote was quite impressive that I had this sudden urge to copy and paste. But yes, she does seem to be well-known for her confessional poetry and free verse writing along with her erotic/sensual works as well. Her themes and ideas are simple/ordinary yet powerful due to the familiarity/understanding most people feel as the poems depiction of 'ordinary-life' situations. Her poems generally revolve around her parents, children, friends, and romantic relationships which are highly relatable to any common reader which I think was an effective way of drawing the audience in.
